Famous story this: Fleming was working late one night in his laboratory when he knocked over a vial of liquid all over his workbench. Next day he returned and there was mold everywhere.
Being of a scientific and inquisitive nature, he tried a bit of the mold became incredibly ill, had to go to his doctor who prescribed him penicilin. And that's how he discovered penicilin.
